Wilder Britain is a coffee table book manifesto of what is at stake, created as a collaboration of U.K.-based wildlife photographers who continuously observe the changes in our local landscapes and how wildlife numbers keep diminishing. Passionate about re-wilding, all photographers chose to donate their images to this first volume that showcases the fragile British wildlife and the habitats it needs to thrive. All money raised through book sales will be used for carefully selected re-wilding projects.
All images show animals found through field craft, without bait, and which were photographed ethically without disturbing their habitat or altering their behaviour. I was fortunate to have three of my images chosen for the book from my time living in Scotland.
In part one of this two-part episode of Beyond the Wild, hosts Mark Raycroft and Jason Loftus are joined by guest Nick White. They explore Nick’s unique experiences living and working in Scotland, including his stint as a lobster fisherman in the North Sea. The conversation delves into the dangers at sea, the beauty of wildlife encounters, and the state of ecosystems in the UK, all while highlighting Nick’s journey from a hobbyist to a passionate wildlife photographer. The crew discusses the differences between conservation models in North America and the UK, and the beauty of photographing wildlife. Nick shares personal experiences photographing red stags and the tranquillity of the Highlands, emphasizing how nature provides a sense of calm and connection to the environment.
